Accepted into School

The Florida school system and structure is hugely different from Illinois. They have school choice and lotteries, not local neighborhood schools. Districts are at the county level in Florida vs. the town level in Illinois. The school in our new hometown has a waiting list and we were rightfully freaked out about getting Adelaide accepted via the lottery for NEXT school year. We’ve been in contact with the school since December about the process – and got Adelaide on the lottery list for next year right away.

However, during a call in late March, the school said we should put Adelaide on the waiting list to finish this school year. We did – but thought the odds of someone moving out this late in the year were low. Miraculously, we got a call a few weeks later that she’d gotten in and could start! So Adelaide got her second first day of school – this time being able to go to physical Kindergarten for the first time! We scrambled to get everything in order – uniforms, lunchbox, backpack, paperwork of all kinds – and made sure to get our excited little girl started as soon as possible!

She obviously did great on her first day! She’s a trooper and brave, social girl. She is so excited to make her lunch, make friends, and learn. The “normal” things that she’s missed out on because of the pandemic and our big move and the state of flux we’re living in.

Related to her starting school – we’ll be staying at this RV park until the house is completed. We’re now on a monthly contract and don’t plan to move the RV for a long, long time. The plan is to stay here until school is over, spend 4-6 weeks up north for the summer, and then come back for Adelaide to start the school year and wait until the house is done.

If you didn’t see from the pictures above, the house is making progress. They poured the foundation and have completed the stone walls! It’s quite exciting to watch and missing out on the progress is going to be hard when we travel up north.

Other than that amazing, huge news – nothing else is new. We’re just living a more static life with me working, Adelaide in school, and Karissa & Emerson enjoying their days together.

More to come. But for now, we’re settling into a routine.
