Yesterday, on a whim, we decided to surprise the kids with a trip to Dinosaur World. It’s a place we’ve driven by a few times and considered going, but just never did. The reviews were pretty decent but not quite raving. So we told the kids we had to go to the grocery store and headed out.
To cut to the point, we LOVED our visit! It was perfect!
The bill to get in was just under $80 for the four of us – and that included an “excavation pass” for the kids. Annual passes are very reasonably priced and something we’d consider if we lived nearby. Imagine having a picnic surrounded by beautiful, lush landscaping and DINOSAURS! It would be pretty cool.
You enter through the giftshop and step into a courtyard where they have a large playground. Beyond that, you’re greeted by the “Dinosaur World” sign and the start of an awesome walk through the Florida jungle. They claim to have 150+ dinosaurs and it definitely felt like there were more. There were dinos deep in the plants, some with signs and some just there for your viewing pleasure.
It took us about 45 minutes to walk around the entire property. We didn’t really stop or slow down much, so it could have easily been 90 minutes or more.
On the way back to the entrance, we stopped for our “Excavation”. The kids were given a sifting screen and a bag of dirt and told to go over to the river and let the water wash away the dirt to reveal any gemstones. Emerson was a little too small to do it by himself and lost focus after a few sifts. Adelaide seemed to enjoy her whole bag of dirt. They each filled a ziploc bag full of gems and cool rocks. Mommy decided to buy a geode and have it cracked open. We looked for geodes and fancy rocks in New Mexico in 2018, with no luck. So buying a geode felt like coming full circle. The one Adelaide chose wound up being two geodes stuck together, so we got a 2-for-1 deal.
Dinosaur World was an amazing day for us! We absolutely loved our time and definitely felt like it was priced right. The landscaping is beautiful and learning a bit along the way was fun too. It’s worth a stop!
