Apple Orchard & Pumpkin Patch – In the SAME WEEK!

This week’s story starts with a new phone. After being an iPhone user for a long time, I switched to a Moto G4 in late 2016. Karissa had been a Samsung Galaxy owner for a few generations and made the switch too. We couldn’t justify spending $800+ for phones. (My first iPhone was $399 – and I thought that was a crazy splurge.) The Moto G4 was basically a flagship phone from the prior year in terms of processing speed and power. I think we paid $250 for the Moto. It was a great phone for us, but by this fall was noticeably slow. The camera had always been sub-par. Since getting more into photography and videography, spending money for a camera that happens to be part of a phone is justifiable. Think of how many photos you take on your phone vs. a “real” camera! The new iPhone Pro with 3 lenses was a real consideration. But again, spending $1,000 for a phone/camera is still a tough pill to swallow. So after too much consideration, I got a Google Pixel 3A for $350. Its camera has rave reviews and it has a much more powerful processor than my Moto G4. The Moto G7 (the latest version) was a brief consideration, but its camera is not the selling point like the Pixel 3A.

All of the photos in this post were taken with the new phone. And I am absolutely loving the camera. It might not have 3 lenses like the latest iPhone, but it takes great photos! We couldn’t be happier.

Adelaide had a day off of school. Emerson has been going to the apple orchard every Wednesday with Grandma Cathy. Adelaide has been jealous of his visits, so begged to go with Emerson and Grandma on her day off. So we made the trip. She and Emerson played in the corn bin, rode the tractor tricycles, played in the mini schoolhouse, and ended the fun with apple cider and apple cider donuts. It was a successful day for sure.

We had a typical Saturday. Basketball for Adelaide in the morning. A few bike rides and enjoyment of a warm day in the afternoon. The kids had been missing Mommy all week, so made sure to get lots of hugs from her.

Just a few days after the apple orchard, we needed to get some pumpkins to decorate for Pumpkin Fest 2019. Luckily, the weather was perfect! We wore t-shirts without jackets and headed to the pumpkin patch. We picked some big ones near the parking lot before a hayride to the pumpkin field to find some more. Emerson loved the hayride and the tractor that pulled the wagon. Adelaide had fun looking at all of the pumpkins and hunting for the most perfect one.

When we got home, it was time to decorate. We had a plan for each kid in order to have a chance to win the pumpkin decorating contest. Emerson did his job – slather paint all over his pumpkin before we added some small pumpkin wheels – but Adelaide has a mind of her own now. She helped with our idea, but wanted to submit her own creation instead. She painted a picture of a unicorn on her large pumpkin. We had wanted her to make a unicorn out of a few pumpkins, but she didn’t think of it – so didn’t want to use it for the contest.

After getting all covered in paint, it was bathtime. Adelaide loves to help wash her brother. And he thinks it’s funny too.

After a long week of fun, the kids were exhausted. I know we share a lot of pictures of them sleeping – but this is how they fell asleep after the pumpkin day:

One last bit of news: we got Adelaide’s preschool picture.

In the next update, we’ll drop the decorated pumpkins off, ride the carnival rides at the festival, and run a 10K race!
