Happy Easter and Easter Week! We don’t know what we did, but the week was a rough one. There were a multiple nights with kids up for hours in the middle of the night. And that sleep deprivation turned the week into a survival blur.
Last Sunday, we got an official 7.5″ of snow! In April! It melted on Monday, but was still a strange occurrence considering a few days before (and after) we were enjoying moderately warm weather.
The local middle school put on a play that was right up Karissa’s alley. As a kid, Karissa was OBSESSED with Lion King. She still sleeps with her Lion King pillow case. The kids love it too, of course. So when a convenient showtime came up to see the play, Karissa decided to take the kids and my mom to see it. It’s safe to say that everybody enjoyed the play. Adelaide even helped Karissa recognize a few characters before they were officially identified.
I wrote a post about it, but we got a new camera this week. I took some “artsy-ish” photos walking around while Adelaide had dance class. And of course we took more that evening at home. There are also more photos than usual in the events since we got the camera. It makes the photography experience new again. Learning the new camera, having a wider assortment of lenses, and attempting to use manual mode all means more photos for a while.
Our basement drywall installation continues to progress. We’ll share before and after photos when it’s done, but here’s a sneak peek:
It’s amazing how drywall going up completely transforms a renovation. No more exposed studs or wires. Or being able to see through walls. Definitely makes it feel more finished even thought there’s quite a bit left of the project.
We had a lightbulb go off while the guys were putting up drywall. Why not hide a time capsule in the wall!? We always hoped to find something hidden in walls or ceilings and got giddy about small newspapers or names written on the wall. So we put together a bunch of stuff to represent us and the current year. We put it in a box and hid it for some future renovator to discover. What started as a 1-page letter written by me got turned into a 12–page mini-novel by Karissa. We hid some toys, a current newspaper, and talked about our story buying and renovating the house. We hope it brings joy to whomever finds it someday.
Our Easter festivities kicked off with an Easter hat parade at Adelaide’s preschool. The kids paraded around in hats they made while parents took pictures. Emerson stood on the table and loved every minute of it.
To begin the weekend, we went to the 2nd Annual Easter Egg Hunt at a friend’s house. Last year, it had to be inside due to cold and wet conditions. But this year was a sunny 65 degree day. There were about 15 kids this year and 400 eggs, so everybody was extremely successful. It was a fun day for everybody.
We came home that afternoon and enjoyed the great weather some more in our back yard and on a bike ride. While we were biking, a black Corvette pulled into our neighborhood. I said, “I’d hate to drive my Corvette on these roads.” (Our roads are under construction and are very rough to drive over.) Karissa laughed in agreement. I noticed the license plates weren’t vanity plates and said, “I bet that’s Rob.” Most people with a Corvette opt for vanity plates and I knew Rob had a Corvette. Sure enough, it was Rob and Lesley! The odds of it being them were very low . We were both shocked!
They pulled over to us and told us they had a surprise to share. Lesley is pregnant and we knew they had just found out the baby’s gender. Sure enough, that was the new they wanted to share. They handed us an Easter egg with a colored Peep inside. (It’s not my news to share, so I’ll skip the reveal for now.) We are very excited for them and can’t wait to meet the little baby in a few months.
We celebrated Easter by going to church with my parents. Afterwards, we went to their house for a small Easter egg hunt, a ham feast, and lamb cake. It was the best weather all year – 75+ and sunny. We spent a majority of the afternoon sitting outside.
Emerson fell asleep in the 5 minute car ride home, dirty, sticky, and red – all signs of a good day to a 2-year old. Adelaide and I cleaned out the cage of her guinea pig, Brownie, while he roamed around the yard a bit. Karissa went on a 7+ mile run to cap off a quiet Easter evening.
Happy Easter! We hope your celebrations were happy and the weather just as nice!
