Corn Fest is one of those typical small-town festivals or fairs. Carnies come set up rides for little kids. Food stands pop up. Streets get shut down. Corn Fest is different because free sweet corn on the cob is given away for 3 hours on Saturday. Other than that, it’s pretty typical.
Karissa and I haven’t gone in probably 10 years. In that time, either the event has changed or our memories are wrong. There used to be a mix of stuff to buy and as-seen-on-tv products mixed in between the food vendors. Now, there aren’t as many non-food vendors. Not that we’d buy anything, but it made walking around just a bit more interesting.
Our kids didn’t have memories of “better” versions of the event. They just knew there was energy in the air and had fun. Emerson loved walking around. He noticed the two yellow lines in the middle of the road and decided to walk between them. If somebody or something got in his way, he’d wait until the path was cleared to continue. It was hilarious.
Adelaide picked out her first pair of high heels. And a dress that matches her swimsuit as an infant. She also got to ride in a blue car, her favorite color. She smiled the whole time.
We chose not to eat there. There wasn’t anything special to eat and the prices are crazy. We drove through Culver’s instead. When it was time for bed, Adelaide slept in her new dress and high heels. In the morning, she carried them around the house like somebody the day after a wedding. It was beyond cute.
