Re-Adjusting to “Normal” Life

We’ve been home for about a week now. We’re still in the process of re-adjusting to this “normal” version of life. We learned a lot about our wants and needs living in an RV for nearly 6 months and are trying to implement those new things into “normal” life. I’ll write about some of the changes later, but it boils down to simplifying everything.

The kids are still loving the huge house. They have limitless floorspace. They can run, walk, and crawl to their hearts desire. There are toys everywhere, just like in the RV – but more spread over more space.

When we got home, we told the kids they’d be sleeping in their own beds by themselves. We were lazy on the RV trip and let them sleep with us. Adelaide is doing great and Emerson screams out of control if/when he wakes up in the middle of the night.

We’re in the process of clearing out the RV to get ready for sale, along with the big F-250. They’re both great vehicles and we wouldn’t hesitate to take them anywhere in the country right now, but neither one fits our “normal” life. We don’t have time to enjoy the RV between taking care of our house and the family lake house. And the big diesel truck is just too much truck for our suburban lifestyle.

Last summer I rode nearly 1,500 miles on my bike. This year, I’m hoping to hit about half of that. A major difference will likely be more miles pulling our bike stroller instead of purely training rides. I also plan to use the bike to commute to stores and sports to aid in racking up miles.

So not too much new. Just adjusting to life in a real house and preparing to sell our road-trip setup, which means the trip is truly over. Karissa and I are both emotional about selling the RV, but believe it’s best for the kids to settle down at this point.
