Flagstaff, Arizona: A Week with Cousins

We spent the last week in Flagstaff, Arizona. We managed to find a great free campsite…just kidding, we parked in Karissa’s brother’s driveway! Adelaide has been begging to see her cousins again since we last saw them in Naples, Florida, in early January. She was beyond happy to pull in and get to play with her cousins.

Our luck got even better because the Arizona teachers are striking. This meant that the boys didn’t have to go to school and Adelaide got more time with them.

We started a new hobby out here called ‘Geocaching’. It is when somebody hides a small container out in nature (or a city) and drops a GPS location pin. Then they usually give a few hints about it and other folks can go hunt for it. It’s all through an app called ‘Geocaching’, just like the activity name. Karissa hates walking/hiking, so this gave her a reason to get outside and hike in the woods. The dogs loved being free in the national forests. The kids got to expend energy climbing on rocks and logs. And the adults got to enjoy a hunt. Some of the geocaches are extremely well hidden and disguised. One was a large container hidden by pine needles. Another was inside of an otherwise normal-looking log. We did it four days in a row and really enjoyed the whole experience.

Of course, we also enjoyed being at a house. Emerson loved the freedom to to crawl around. Adelaide liked being able to get away, play outside by herself, and watch TV. The internet here is fast. The dogs enjoyed having a yard to wrestle. Being with cousins and getting a glimpse into their normal lives was great.

All-in-all, we thoroughly enjoyed our time in Flagstaff. It’s a cool little town of 70,000 that feels more like a Colorado ski town than Arizona. The vibe is very laid back and friendly. Lots of active people. We can see why it would be a great place to live.
