When we went to Disney World in October, the Magic Kingdom shut early on our final day to host Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. Adelaide was furious that we didn’t get invited to the party. To make that up to her, Mickey invited her to his Christmas Party.
Because Emerson didn’t really enjoy the rides and Karissa can’t go on rides because of pregnancy, it made the most sense for a Daddy/Daughter date. Adelaide got to miss two days of school and stay up too late to have fun with the Disney crew.
The party let us into the park at 4pm and began at 7pm, so we left home at 9am and had lunch in Disney Springs before checking into the hotel. We parked and got to the entrance to the Magic Kingdom at 3:15. We got all set up with our wristbands and walked into the park at 4pm sharp!
We headed straight to Space Mountain to ride it “regular way” before the party started and it got an “overlay” – which means a special treatment that adds some holiday flair to an attraction. It was just as fun as we remembered.
We then crossed over to ride Splash Mountain – got SOAKED – and dried off by riding Thunder Mountain Railroad. By then, it was approaching 6pm when the day guests had to leave. So we had a Dole Whip during the transition time. Jungle Cruise has an overlay that turns it into “Jingle Cruise” during December. We got in line while all of the shops were closed during the transition from regular day to party central – and were bombarded with the corny Christmas jokes.
Once the party officially began, we headed straight to Space Mountain to experience the overly. It has red & green lasers, techno holiday music, and was a totally different experience of a ride. Totally worth the price of admission alone!
After that, we got some of our free cookies and apple cider and wandered over to see a show. We had a few more of our cookies & hot chocolate, watched the amazing and never-ending special parade, and rode a few more rides as the night wore on. We did Space Mountain at least one more time too.
After the super impressive firework show, we rode Dumbo a few times and Goofy’s roller coaster. Adelaide was getting tired, but was a trooper. We found a line to see 4 characters and Adelaide got re-energized. She got great pictures with Donald Duck, Scrooge McDuck, Daisy Duck, and Minnie Mouse! We barely made it in time to meet them and literally ran to the castle to see the final Mickey & Friends show of the night. It was an awesome show – we somehow got a great spot to watch it – and was the cherry on top of a wonderful event and special time for the two of us.
We’re already planning to attend the party next year!
