Living in a town that is literally brand new – it used to be a cattle ranch and only began welcoming residents in 2018 – means that we get to experience a host of new traditions. This weekend, Babcock Ranch held the very first ‘Founder’s Day Fest’ and the town’s founder, Syd Kitson, gave a speech about how he hopes this festival is continued for the next “hundred years”.
The activities began with a bunch of (free) things for kids under 10 to do. Various kinds of inflatable bounce houses, inflatable obstacle courses, a huge fair-style canvas sack slide, a mechanical bull, ponies to ride, and 8-10 food trucks. After a speech from Syd Kitson, a band played for a few hours. And that’s just the day-time fun!
The kids had their soccer season kick off that morning. So after soccer, we went to the festival and had lunch – vegan hot dogs for the kids and vegan arepas for us adults. We were there until about 2:30pm, did everything a few times, and came home to spend some quality time in our pool and cool off.
Founder’s Fest concluded with a big concert from a somewhat major regional band – called “Pure Country”. They’re supposedly famous in SW Florida and mostly play 90s country hits. They were pretty good – and it helped that you knew every song. The crowd was pretty large. But after a long day in the sun, the kids wanted to leave well before the concert was over.
Coming up next for us is a week of regular school and then Fall Break. We’ve got a big surprise in store and can’t wait to share!
It was an action filled a super fun weekend with the Foelskes!! Loved it!!
