In many ways, we’ve been living our entire lives with the end of the school year as a major transition point. Karissa being a teacher only extended the end of the school year as an important, transition date. Having kids in school makes it important to us for the next 18 years.
So our “year” is ending. Adelaide wrapped up her unique Kindergarten year. She spent the 1st half e-learning back in DeKalb. Then was homeschooled by Mommy for a few months. Then got in to school in Florida to wrap up the year. She had 3 first days of school, 3 teachers, and a really unique year.
With the end of the school year (and summer break), we’re heading north. Karissa and the kids chose to fly because of her parents car troubles, dogs, and finding a flight for $30/person. It was Emerson’s first flight and he was beyond excited. Adelaide has flown 8 times, by our quick count, but somehow Emerson hasn’t had the pleasure.
The night before their flight, we went out to eat at a vegan restaurant downtown Fort Myers. The food was amazing! But the kids have forgotten how to act in an eating out situation, so it was a bit less fun than we remember. Luckily, the setting was pretty informal and comparable to Panera in the ordering/eating process, so it wasn’t a huge issue.
I dropped them all off at the airport where they got to fly up north for the summer.
They will spend their first few days at my parents’ house before going to the lake house. The plan is to split time between the two places for the summer.
Backing up a bit, our house got wrapped (in time to “wrap up” the school year). We’ve enjoyed seeing the progress and will miss seeing it every day for a few weeks while we’re up north…
