Just like that, January is over. We spent the entire month trying to get back into the routine again. It was cold, but not bitter cold, and just the right amount of snow. There was a 20-day streak in Chicago without sun, if the news was correct. So pretty darn dark!
Adelaide had “Donuts with Dudes” day at her school. She wanted me and her brother to join her. Emerson loved the cool new toys to play with and got into the swing of things about halfway through the day. Adelaide is loving school and is excited to go every day. She did her homework – stacking plastic cups – right when she got in the door!
We attended the big rivalry basketball game between local high schools. The highlight for the kids was playing in the bouncy houses and dancing on the basketball court. We saw about half of the girls game and half of the boys game; we left because it was late.
One day, the kids were being too quiet in the basement. When we went to check on them, Emerson had a face tattoo from Adelaide. She was very proud of her artwork. We laughed and took a picture. Then, she said it was her turn and disappeared into the bathroom. Ten minutes later, she emerged with her own face tattoo claiming to be a unicorn. As much as it would be easy to get mad about it, coloring on their faces with washable marker is much better than seeing it on the walls or floors. They got a bath after a few hours and it was gone – easy peasy.
Emerson has always been into wheels and cars – but it’s really emerging again. He plays with his racetrack every day. He lined up a bunch of cars and trucks with books as ramps so that his monster trucks could jump over the line of vehicles. We have no idea where he learned about monster trucks jumping, but it’s fair to say that it’s a very “Emerson” thing to like!
I’ve sort of challenged myself to take at least on semi-artsy picture each day. Not of the kids, necessarily. Just of things that seem photo-worthy at the moment.
February will be a month of major changes for us. We are always trying to be our best and, more importantly, create the best outcomes for our kids. We learned new information and will begin implementing it immediately. Stay tuned!
