After a brief few days at home, we headed up to Wisconsin for our annual 4th of July week reunion with Karissa’s family at the lake house. The weather was great. We enjoyed the warm lake. Swam from the pier and the boat. The kids got pulled around on the jetski. Lots of good times were had by all. It was probably the best year in a long time.
To kick off the festivities, we attended the local town’s parade. We chose a spot at the end of the route. While we got a lot of candy, we missed out on the energy of the parade – most of the floats thought the parade was over by the time they got to our spot.
The fireworks shows were decent. There was one every night for a few nights in a row. We didn’t see them all because of kids and sleeping.
The weekly flea market at the county fairgrounds is always a must-go event. I think we left empty handed, but had fun looking at the goods.
Finally, we celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary! We decided to take our annual picture while wearing snow pants and winter gear to highlight (and remind ourselves) how obscenely cold the year was in Illinois. We had two dates that day – the best chimichangas ever for lunch and then had some octopus and pizza for dinner.
We’ll be doing a bit of back-and-forth in the next few weeks. Family members, specifically Karissa’s brother and his family, will be staying throughout July. Since we don’t see them for the rest of the year, we try to maximize our time at the lake.
While home, we’re going to try to finish our basement remodel. We had it drywalled and tiled this spring, but it needs paint and other finishing touches before we can start using it as part of the house!
