Another fairly ho-hum week. Winter continues to drag on and on. We’re sick of it, if you haven’t figured it out yet.
On Tuesday evening, Adelaide’s preschool held their “Spring Sing” – a time for the kids to sing a few songs they’ve been working on and for parents and families to gush over how cute the kids are. Adelaide did a great job with her classmates. Emerson LOVED it! He danced in the aisles and at the end, when parents, siblings, and whoever got to come onstage, he danced as if he’d been rehearsing with the kids. We took a lot of video but not pictures.
Wednesday is our library day. In addition to a few hours a week at the daycare at the YMCA, it’s Emerson’s primary time to get socialization. We spent an extra 90 minutes playing with the toys this week. Adelaide played with an older girl and Emerson had a little safari.
I’ve been contributing pretty regularly to reviewing places on Google Maps. On our big RV trip, I was reviewing restaurants, RV parks, and shops all over the country. It becomes kind of addicting. I’ve continued to review places locally, but it’s not as much fun and you can only review a place once – so the repetitive nature of a stagnant life doesn’t yield the same opportunity to be an all-star reviewer. In any event, my reviews have gotten enough web traffic to earn me my first reward – a pair of Google Maps/Google Local Guides socks! They’re pretty cool. I wore them to volleyball and we won, so they might be lucky too. It’s not a big gift, but adds a real-world reward to submitting stuff into the ether of the internet.
Obviously, the capstone of our week was celebrating Adelaide’s 4th birthday. Time has flown. She’s a wonderful child and we couldn’t imagine life without her.
For her birthday, we got her ears pierced at a tattoo parlor. After reading horror stories about the risks of a piercing gun at the mall, we chose the tattoo parlor because they require actual licensing, training, and use more hygienic materials. Seeing her face when the needle went it made us cringe. We both feel horrible. But she did a great job and was fine about 5 minutes later. We’re still recovering.
Adelaide also got a new pet – a guinea pig that was originally named “Brownie” and has quickly become “Pepper Brownie”…or some combination of “Pepper” and “Brownie”. We think he will be a great pet for Adelaide. She woke up and began talking to him right away. So we think he will be good for her speech. And his newness adds a bit of excitement to the kids’s lives.
The other big gift she got was a hyper-realistic looking baby doll. Karissa ordered it quite a while ago and was excited to give it to Adelaide. We’ve named her Kara (Cara?) and Adelaide loves her. Adelaide has always loved her dolls, especially Molly, but this one is different. It feels real. Has some weight. And looks super real. Hopefully she enjoys it and continues to take great care of her.
That was another one of our typical, ho-hum winter weeks. Sunshine and warm weather can’t come soon enough.
