This week started with a warm Sunday. Like in the 40s. The mounds of snow we had began to melt and there was flowing water in the streets. My parents needed my help to get their sump pump working again and ensure their basement stayed dry. There was frozen water in the drainage hose that needed to be melted. No big deal.
Then it was home to watch the Super Bowl. I made a pork rib roast and a bunch of appetizers. But the entire game? What a bore! Commercials just aren’t as funny as they used to be. The game wasn’t very entertaining. And halftime was…lackluster. Oh, well.
We had freezing rain overnight that left everything in a layer of ice. Thank goodness for remote start on the truck that we leave outside. I don’t know how the doors would have been opened if I couldn’t start the engine and get heat going without opening a door! The trees were really beautiful from the ice. But the roads were fine and nothing got cancelled.
We’ve been working hard on Karissa’s side-gig as a Norwex Independent Sales Consultant. We hope the efforts pay off with some big sales numbers this year. It would be nice to get the business going to add to our patchwork of income.
We’re extremely close to being ready for drywall in our basement. I probably deserves its own write-up, but here are a few pictures of where it stands today. We’re literally a day or two of work away from being ready for drywall…and we couldn’t be more excited for this major milestone.
We also gave Emerson a much-needed haircut. We took him to a Great Clips last time and while they did as good of a job as could be expected from a scared, twitchy toddler, we weren’t impressed. So we decided to cut it at home by ourselves and save the money. It’s not perfect, but he doesn’t have hair in his eyes and looks good enough.
On Fridays, we’ve begun having family movie nights. And the kids and mom sleep in our room. Emerson fell asleep early, so was in his bed. We brought him to our couch in the middle of the night when his stuffed up nose woke him up. He was moving around a lot and fell asleep standing up, leaning against the couch. Well, he can’t sleep while standing up so he fell down on the floor…and kept on sleeping! It was pretty funny and we’re glad he got the rest he needs.
The week got capped off with a playdate at a friend’s house. Adelaide had a ball and Emerson did ok after getting over his initial shyness.
There isn’t much on the docket for the coming week, so hopefully we find something fun to do.
