It’s been a normal week of winter around here. More fresh snow. More bitter cold. And regular life. We had a day and a half of school cancellations. And a bout of sick kids. The highlights of the week were finishing the TV stand and finally deciding to buy another vehicle for the fleet, but more on that later.
Karissa’s side-gig as a Norwex Independent Sales Consultant is taking a big step up this month. She’s doing something she’s calling the “30 Day Challenge” where we’re making and publishing one new product demonstration video every day for 30 consecutive days. It’s kind of fun and lets me play with video editing. But it’s also stressful to squeeze in the time to make, edit, and post the videos.
So back to the car situation. We had originally planned to get rid of the RV and big truck after our adventure. Then, we explored getting a cheaper gas truck to replace the fancy diesel truck. After deciding to keep the big diesel, we’re effectively a one-car family for errands and stuff around town. Engines last longest and operate best when they can get to operating temperature to burn off carbon and fight acids. Our diesel takes forever to warm up to that level. Thus, we try to avoid short trips with the truck.
So we decided to get a 3rd vehicle to fill the void and let us have 2 short-trip, quick-heating cars. We decided on a 2011 Ford Fiesta. We’ve been looking at it and thinking about it for 2 weeks. We finally made the decision to go buy it, so my dad and I made the 1-hour drive. The test drive was great, other than a pesky check engine light. “Low Voltage” was the code. So we cleared it and drove a bit more. No light. All was good. The salesman took the car back to get detailed and ready for sale when the light flipped on again. This time it was a transmission-related code. Mechanic said it needed a new one. The salesman, being an honest guy, said he couldn’t sell me the car in that condition. While I’m thankful he didn’t push a dumpy car on me, I’m also disappointed. It was a fun, peppy little car and a great deal. The hunt continues!
My dad and I made the most of it by having lunch at a Korean BBQ place. It was great!
So that was our week. Nothing out of the ordinary, other than the car story.
If you haven’t already, check out and subscribe to our YouTube channel! We’re trying to make 1 video a week. We’re putting quite a bit of energy into it and will undoubtedly get better with each video. So watch us improve!
