We’d always planned to make a trip home at some point during our travels. We didn’t know the exact date or for how long at first, but it made sense to go home to celebrate Emerson’s 1st birthday and leave in time to hit St. Louis for Karissa’s follow-up with Super-Doc on the way back to Texas. It is about midway through our road-tripping and after the worst part of winter.
So we put the RV in storage near somewhere between Waco and Dallas and did the 15+ hour drive home in one shot. With our kids only able to handle 4-6 hours of driving in a day and us not wanting to waste any time, we decided to drive through the night. It turned out pretty well for the kids and we had a pretty uneventful drive. We’ll resume our road trip in Texas before heading further west…unless we decide to stay either in Texas or head back to Florida and enjoy the continuously warming weather.
Adelaide was beyond happy to be at her “big house”. She missed all of her toys and the room to play. She ran all around the house touching just about every toy when we got home. Emerson loved being able to crawl endlessly, but probably didn’t remember the place. The dogs loved being back in their fenced yard to chase and wrestle, but I think they’re missing the bonding and exercise of multiple walks every day.
We surprised my parents who thought we were coming a few days later and then surprised Aunt Foy and the cousins. Everyone was ecstatic to see us – especially a few days early.
We plan to relax and spend time with family while we’re at our “big house”. I already miss our “house on wheels” and the adventurous lifestyle on the road, but having reliably fast internet and room to spread out is also really nice.
It takes all drivers for long trips.
Our great view in the back yard. That is about $60 worth of laundry we brought home to do for almost free!
We’ve been lucky to see 3-5Mbps upload and 1Mbps download, so this is lighting!
