Halfway Through October: Grandma’s Birthday & Big Boy Bed

If there’s a theme to this school year so far, it’s time blurring by. Whereas last year, we had school just two days a week until the spring when it shifted to 5 half days – this year, we’re doing 5 full days of school. At two different schools on opposite ends of town. Plus, Emerson is in school twice a week at a third place. Karissa has been leaving for work pretty early the last few weeks. We’ve all been tired.

One of the big events so far in October was celebrating Grandma’s birthday. We went over to Grandma & Grandpa’s house to eat and have birthday cake. The kids got to play with all of the great toys they don’t see every day. Great Grandma (my grandma) came from Iowa. It was a fun day.

The other big event so far in October was converting Emerson’s bed from a crib into a “big boy bed”. He (and Adelaide) were beyond excited for the transformation. Thanks to Cousin Aidan for helping!

Other than those two events, October has been mostly uneventful. Adelaide is still playing weekly basketball. Attending schools. Dance class. Emerson spends every Wednesday with Grandma & Grandpa.

We’re training for a 15K race in early November. We’re wrapping up painting the house. And trying to get as much done in the basement as possible before we host Thanksgiving. I’ve also ramped up my trading as a test run for a job-free future for the both of us. Karissa went back to work last school year (mostly) because health insurance costs were killing us at $2,000+ per month. I’ve been trading actively since the spring and had enough success to cover our monthly nut including that pesky $2,000 of health insurance costs. So long as Karissa stays at her job, we’ll enjoy the boost in income. It’s a win-win situation for now.

As fall continues to settle in, we’re hating the cold, dark, and wet combo of weather that’s “normal” in these parts. We continue to miss life on the road – especially the endless sunshine and warmth of Florida. Sometimes we daydream about homeschooling and living out of the RV for another year or so…but neither of us thinks that’s best for our kids at this time.

In the meantime, we get some great animal sightings in our back yard. Foxes, deer, and coyotes! This image below is a coyote eating a squirrel! The kids talked about it for a few days!
